The basics of NFC
The NFC tag is a small chip with an antenna that you can program into your phone. You insert your smartphone and it opens a page, a business card, a link, or starts an automation — without an app and without clicking. More in the article What is NFC?.
Yes. iPhone XS and later (iOS 13+) read tags automatically when you hold your phone near them; iPhone 7, 8, and X read them through the app or an NFC reader from the control center. Practically every Android with NFC supports tags without additional apps—just check to see if NFC is turned on in the settings.
On the iPhone, the antenna is located at the top edge of the case; on most Androids—in the middle or at the top of the bezels—it is hidden. Thin cases don’t interfere; thick, metal or magnetic ones can make reading difficult—then you have to bring the phone a little closer.
For reading the data — it is enough to bring the phone close to the NFC-enabled device. The application (e.g., the free NFC Tools) is useful only when you want to program or change the content of the tag yourself.
Install the free NFC recording app (e.g., NFC Tools), select what you want to open — a link, vCard, Wi-Fi details, or another action — and bring your phone close to the tag. It takes a few seconds. Step-by-step instructions: How to program NFC tags?
Thousands of times. You can change the content whenever you want — via the phone with the NFC app. One exception: a tag that has been locked permanently (read-only mode) can no longer be overwritten.
Yes. The NTAG213, NTAG215 and NTAG216 chips allow you to permanently lock the recording (the tag becomes readable only) or secure it with a password. Permanent locking is irreversible, so only turn it on after checking the recorded content.
The chip has no battery and practically does not wear out — it withstands hundreds of thousands of readings, which is many years of use. Just be careful of mechanical damage: bending or cutting the antenna ends the tag’s functionality.
Which tag or chip to choose
They differ in their usable memory: NTAG213 — 144 B (short link, e.g. to a Google profile), NTAG215 — 504 B (vCard business card, longer links, automation), NTAG216 — 888 B (most data). All of them work with iPhone and Android. Comparison: NTAG213 vs NTAG215.

Google Reviews — cards, stickers and NFC stands
The customer holds the phone near the card, sticker or stand, and your Google profile with the feedback form opens immediately — without having to search for the company in maps or using an app. Products with a QR code also work when the code is scanned with a camera. See Google products Reviews.
